Praying for the Dead and Comforting the Sorrowing are two Spiritual Works of Mercy that the Catholic Church has encouraged and practiced for millennia. Most of us are familiar with the Mass of Christian Burial which is offered for the repose of a soul. At this Mass, the body/remains are blessed and the individual's soul is commended to God. Our personal prayers at a Funeral Mass can also be offered toward that same goal, and our presence can be a source of comfort and support for those who are grieving—even if we don't know what to say.
Another way to offer a Mass for the repose of a soul is to request a Mass Intention for the repose of a person's soul. At that Mass the priest will hold that person or intention in prayer. A Mass intention may be made for a deceased person, a living person, or any specific prayer request.
If someone has recently died and you would like to schedule a Funeral Mass, please see our page on "Funeral Planning" or reach out to the Parish Office.
Please consider offering your prayers for the repose of the souls below,
as well as for their family and loved ones who are grieving.
